Archon Johnson established a successful law practice in Houston and served as City Attorney for Kendleton, Texas, where he provided trusted counsel and public leadership. He later became an executive within a prominent law firm, navigating complex legal and organizational matters with discretion and professionalism.

In parallel, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Texas Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall School of Law, mentoring future attorneys and instilling in them a commitment to justice, civic responsibility, and ethical reasoning.

National Fraternal Leadership

Archon Johnson’s record of fraternal leadership is both deep and distinguished. He served as the 31st General President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (2001–2005), one of the nation’s most influential Greek-letter organizations.

During his presidency, he advanced initiatives in education, civic engagement, and voting rights, while also laying the groundwork for what would become the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial. His tenure was marked by unity, institutional strengthening, and respect for tradition—leadership that was firm, inclusive, and forward-looking.

Within Sigma Pi Phi, Archon Johnson has been a devoted member for more than two decades, having been inducted in 2004. His service includes leadership as Sire Archon of the Nu Boulé in Houston, and service on the Grand Executive Committee, contributing meaningfully to the governance and vitality of the Fraternity.

Civic Vision and National Impact

One of Archon Johnson’s most enduring contributions to civic life was his service as President and CEO of the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation from 2002 to 2011. Under his leadership, the Foundation successfully raised $127 million to construct the Memorial on the National Mall—one of the most significant commemorative projects in American history.

The Memorial was dedicated in 2011 in the presence of the President and Vice President of the United States and other global leaders. This achievement stands as a testament to Archon Johnson’s rare ability to unite public officials, philanthropists, corporations, and citizens around a shared moral and historical vision.

Business and Public Service Leadership

A forward-thinking entrepreneur and public servant, Archon Johnson currently serves as President and CEO of The Memorial Foundation, Inc., ensuring the continued stewardship of Dr. King’s legacy.

In 2024, he was appointed Chairman of the U.S. Minority Business Development Agency, where he advocates for minority entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and institutional resilience at a national level. His business leadership has also included guiding an airport concessions enterprise dedicated to expanding opportunity in underserved communities.
